Teachers and students – those two personalities, created by the Creator in this world for the reason that it’s impossible for the student to comprehend the unknown and incomprehensible, except for when he is being tuned to that by the teacher.
Let’s compare this, for instance, to the piano, which has to be tuned in a totally different manner, but which manner is unknown: there are hundreds of strings and each one of them, and all of them together must be tuned in the unknown manner. And only if very precise tuning will be done, then the spiritual will recall – and the strings will begin playing by themselves. But a person on his own can’t find the order for tuning the strings. For this purpose in this world there are such correlations between people as Teacher-student, and the Teacher, gradually, using clues, arouses the correct direction of will in the student, brings him, as a child, without obviously directing to the seemingly independent conclusions of the student on how to correctly tune his instrument.
Reality shows us that there is no right to exist for an isolated individual without a sufficient number of people around him to serve him and help him provide for his needs. Hence, a person is initially born to live a social life. And each and every individual in society is like a wheel that is linked to several other wheels on the same machine. And this single wheel has no freedom of movement in and of itself, but it continues with the motion of all the other wheels in a certain direction for the machine to perform its general purpose.
One great insight gained from the vast resources of the religious, philosophical, spiritual and moral traditions of the ages is that the more we humans are locked in egocentric, mono logical thought patterns, the more we suffer, the more there is failure in our personal and corporate lives, the more there is violence.
In general, the Creator brings an individual to a firm and final resolution to get rid of all personal interest in any situation in life, by making him suffer to such an extent that his only desire becomes to stop the suffering. This is possible only if he has absolutely no personal, selfish interest in the outcome of any daily matters that arise in his life.
But where, then, is our free will? Where is the freedom of choice to decide which road to take, or what to choose in life? The Creator pushes an individual to choose a certain solution. He does it by placing a person amidst such misery that death seems preferable to life. Yet, the Creator does not give one the strength necessary to end ones miserable existence and thus, to escape the suffering. Rather, the Creator suddenly gives a person a glimpse of the only solution, which comes like a ray of sunshine through heavy clouds. The solution is not in death, nor in escaping from ones life, but in freeing oneself from having personal interest in the outcome of the mundane. This is the only solution; only this can bring peace and rest from unbearable suffering.
If we have no outside influences such as need or another’s opinion, our decisions are based solely on our personal preference, something we have nothing to do with, for we are born with them. But everyone at one time or another has experienced a change in these preferences, such as “before I hated the taste of tomatoes, but now I love them”. What’s up with that?
The fact is that these initial preferences change, evolve over time. And when they do change, our choices will change with them. Does that mean we made an independent choice? Definitely not. It simply means that this control mechanism inside of us that determines what we choose, if we have no outside influence to counteract it, has somehow rearranged what we prefer. Sorry, no freedom here either.
We already perceive that we are bored with this life. I do not know where to derive pleasure; I do not know what to do, and I force myself to move with difficulty. A modern person speaks this way. The reason for this is that the memory, the mind, and the point in the heart are coming from a new Kli (vessel) called the “soul.” After this Kli, a new screen will emerge to show a person a new reality. This reality differs from the previous one in which he saw this world. It is a completely different mechanism. If a person develops it, then this point in the heart will become an additional sixth organ of perception. In this case, the mind and memory will acquire a different development, and through this system, a person will see a completely different picture.
As soon as the pleasure enters the desire, it quenches it and fills it to that degree. A desire that is quenched stops feeling the pleasure, because the pleasure is felt inside the desire. This means that the desire itself is felt. So on the one hand, there has to be an appetite, a hunger, and on the other hand, there must be pleasure. It is only when both of them meet that one feels good. And when the desire is filled, it is turned off, it goes away to the degree of the filling, up to a point where one feels that no desire even existed. This is the form of a direct reception of pleasure, a pleasure that enters a desire. This is why we are never satiated, and we keep on searching for satisfaction.
